I’ve usually got a lot of irons in the fire and browser tabs open, but here’s what I’m mainly up to these days:
Rooms for Improvement
We’ve done a fair amount of work on our house since purchasing it last year, yet there’s always more to do. Right now, I’m finishing up a refresh of our den just in time for cooler weather so we can test drive our fireplace.
Taking Care of Business
My home office is in a constant state of flux. I’m learning how to optimize it for more effective work, while also refining it into a comfortable and inviting workspace. The next addition I have planned is a whiteboard; I have plenty of digital tools, but sometimes ideas flow best with a marker in hand.
Learning Curves
Currently, I’m primarily focused on my bachelor’s program, though I try to make regular time for learning in public through this site. I supplement my learning with books (see below) and online resources.
Nerdy Things
I’m continually growing my homelab and using it as a testbed for new ideas, as well as for keeping up with networking, sysadmin and development skills that I don’t get to exercise as much through work.
What I’m Reading
- Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software - Charles Petzold
- The Elements of Computing Systems - Noam Nisan and Shimon Shocken
- The Phoenix Project: A Novel about IT, DevOps, and Helping Your Business Win - Gene Kim, Kevin Behr, and George Spafford
